Angela wins First Annual APA Ladies Tournament!
Angela Skawinski edged out rival Audre Hartman on Sunday to claim victory in the APA of Albany’s First Annual Ladies 8-Ball Tournament. The tournament featured a field of 10 women, all poised for the challenge. Both Angela and Audre reversed their fortunes after first-round losses to meet in the finals.

Angela, a long-time Red Sox fan, used her new Red Sox-branded cue, while Audre was dressed in full Yankees apparel. The match went to the hill, mirroring the hill battle between the Red Sox and Yankees to be held later that night. The Red Sox ended up winning the series in Boston, just as Angela won the 2-2 split for the match and the tournament victory. Congrats to everyone for a great tournament!

APA League 2008 Local Team Championship
The 2008 APA Local Team Championship will be held Friday (night), Saturday and Sunday, June 5-8 at Diamond Eight Billiards. The Local Team Championship (LTC) is the annual APA tournament to decide what teams will advance to the National Team Championships in Las Vegas in August. Both 8-Ball and 9-Ball tournaments are held concurrently. Teams that have qualified during the 2007-2008 APA sessions are invited to compete for the Vegas slots. Teams that did not qualify, but who have demonstrated top class sportsmanship during the year, will play-off Friday night for a spot in the LTC.
Diamond Eight will have lots of food and drink specials that weekend. More information is coming soon!
For teams that do not advance to Vegas, Diamond Eight will also host the 2008 Second Chance Tournament.

Friday night Karaoke!
Friday nights at Diamond Eight are hot! We feature Karaoke with Mark the Shark every Friday night starting at 9:30pm. While you have a few (whatevers) to relax your vocal cords, you can play pool on one of our new 7-foot bar-size pool tables, or choose our full-size tables to practice those extra tough shots! And if pool is not your game, there is still plenty more to do! Play foosball, darts, video games or QuickDraw, or just cozy up to the bar and watch the game on one of our many TVs.

Tom and Natasha Headed for Vegas!
UPDATE: Tom and Natasha are headed to Vegas! They earned the trip and entry to the APA National Jack and Jill Tournament by defeating Frank and Kathleen 4 games to 2. Great play by both teams! Good luck to Tom and Natasha!
Kathleen Durand and Frank Rich bested Jen Oliver and Fred Giovannetti in the February 9 Jack and Jill Scotch Doubles Tournament at Diamond Eight, to advance to the big playoff match against Natasha Singletary and Tom Acciavatti, who had won the December “Phase 1” tournament. The winner of that match will advance to the APA National Jack and Jill Championship, to be held at the Riveria Casino in Las Vegas in April. Good luck to both teams, all of whom play in leagues at Diamond Eight. A few pics from the day are posted.
The Scotch Doubles format is a lot of fun to play; it features partners alternating shots, not turns. For example, player A breaks and pockets a ball, player B takes the next shot, etc. Future APA partners tournaments will be announced soon.
